One of my earliest memories of chai goes back to when I was about 14 years old in India. We used to go for a picnic outing about 25 miles away from Bhopal city to this historical Raisin Fort on top of a hill. The real treat, however, was to enjoy double mazedar chai in a tiny tea stall there. The word mazedar in Hindi means an experience providing maza or great fun. The maza is doubled when the milk is boiled twice; Once plain and the second time after the tea and mild spices and sugar are added to it. It was not a cup of tea, it was a meal by itself. It filled us with a warm glow all the was home.
